A Life on the Ocean Wave!

WEYMOUTH CHORAL SOCIETY SETS SAIL…

Landlubbers were treated to an evening of music and song on Saturday 18th June, celebrating the nautical heritage of Dorset, as a taster in the lead up to the Olympic Sailing Events in 2012. A packed hall at All Saints’ School enjoyed folksongs, shanties, selections from HMS Pinafore, novelty songs, calypsos and rousing patriotic numbers such as ‘Rule Britannia’! Weymouth Choral Society was joined by guests Flute Mosaic who played with the choir in several items as well as their own suitably chosen pieces, and members of the Dorset Youth Singers. The young vocalists sang solos and group items, including the upbeat ‘Drop in the Ocean’. The Society’s accompanist, Louise Dukes, also played two lively pieces for piano accordion.

Weymouth Choral Society was very proud to be giving the debut performance of two new songs written by the Dorset songwriter and composer, Vanessa Young. The traditional-style song ‘Married to the Sea’, featuring the gentlemen of the choir, and the cheeky smuggling song ‘Bring the Bounty in!’ were greatly enjoyed by singers and audience alike.
