Workshop – Elijah Choruses

Weymouth Choral Society ran an exciting and inspiring day of singing at the Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester in March 2017.  It was led by Colin Davey, Chief Examiner and Education Programmes Manager for the Royal School of Church Music.  Colin is a highly experienced Choral Director and organist with a passion for the English Choral Tradition.  He has had several of his compositions performed on television and radio.  The workshop featured choruses from Mendelssohn’s popular, dramatic oratorio ‘Elijah‘, focusing on vocal and choral technique, musicianship and interpretation. The workshop was open to the public and many local singers were welcomed to the day as well as members of Barclays House Choir from Poole, with whom WCS will be performing ‘Elijah‘ at Wimborne Minster on 3 June  As one participant put it:  ‘I just had to let you know how much I enjoyed yesterday’s workshop with Colin. It was brilliant from beginning to end and so good to sing in a big choir again. Colin was so lovely, his humour and patience made the day go so quickly yet with so much learned. His knowledge about Elijah also made a huge impact on how to approach each section. Thank you so much for organising the day and when is the next one!’
